...I'm too lazy to figure out how to do it here myself lol
And I said at the beginning of this article, I generally don't think being serious about a problem does anything to fix it. But this shit just made me sick.
I remember reading about it in the Philly Daily News back in the winter and I, for some reason, assumed the outcry would cause a PR scare for HealthAmerica, and maybe they'd foot the bill because of it.
Of course, nothing of the sort happened. Fucking cocksuckers. It's enough to make you wanna tie a black bandanna around your face and slit a few throats, to paraphrase HL Mencken

the difference between corporate science, i.e. the drug trades, and academic sciences.
I understand totally the conflation, but it is a conflation borne of a system that does not value education for societal betterment, but for profit. It has trapped many into being only able to study with the grants of the elites.
But to blame the process for those who exploit it, is to blame beauty for rape, or education for sin, or, or, or....
The process is not to be blamed, the bastardization of it for profit is to be stopped.
Philosophy, no, MORAL LIBERALISM must promote science in its true form: discovery.
Science is not a "thing" it is a PROCESS

And the failure of 'scientists' is twofold...
First, they have prostituted their 'process' in the name of PROFIT. This means that they are guilty of BAD Science when they 'cherry-pick' their results to please their corporate masters.
Anomalous results mean there is something you missed in your analysis or in your 'solution' to a perceived problem, whether it's unforeseen complications from a new drug, or a new "wonder fuel" that is less efficient and more toxic then the previous one.
Secondly, since the chief application of science is in the service of technology, and usually at the behest of the elite, privileged class, one can not make the claim that technology, and by extension, science is morally neutral. Since the invention of the club, through gunpowder, steel, nerve gas, and the atomic bomb; science and it's handmaiden, technology have served the interests of the ruling classes first... and humanity second.
This is an attitude that must change. Aristotle did not separate science and philosophy.
They are complimentary in a holistic understanding of the universe;
science is the proper tool to measure the quantifiable aspects of the universe,
and philosophy helps us to evaluate and measure the qualifiable aspects that are perceivable but do not lend themselves to raw measurement.
As an aside to the 'religious' right, evolution is a process, too. It requires no intervention from any party, human, or supernatural deity, to create verifiable results. Think of it as a sieve. Every species that lives long enough to exploit it's environmental niche successfully and reproduce, makes it through the sieve. Those that fail to find and exploit a niche, don't -and become extinct. Humans have artificially simulated the evolutionary process by selective breeding of plants and animals for centuries.
We, ourselves, because we share a common physiology with many animals, are not immune to the same influences.
It is illogical to believe that human beings are somehow spared the effects of the same process
that has affected every other creature on the planet.
